Case Study: Bürstadt Furniture GmbH – Digital Warehouse Logistics in the Furniture Industry
Optimizing Warehouse Logistics in Furniture Production
Bürstadt Furniture GmbH stands for experience, precision, and innovation in furniture manufacturing. By utilizing state-of-the-art technologies, the company produces efficiently and passionately. Its primary focus is the production of wardrobes and kitchen cabinets, manufactured in three stages using highly automated and modern equipment. Bürstadt Furniture consistently follows its vision of a digital factory, progressively implementing Industry 4.0 principles. To meet the growing demands for efficient, digital warehouse logistics, Bürstadt Furniture sought an intelligent warehouse management solution.
Requirements:
Initial Situation:
Before implementing the Warehouse Execution System (WES), Bürstadt Furniture’s warehouse was manually managed. There were no fixed storage locations, inventory was only roughly tracked, and employees had to memorize pathways and storage areas. The result was lengthy search times, storage errors, and inefficient processes.
From Challenge to Solution: Digital Transformation of Warehouse Logistics
Faced with these challenges, Bürstadt Furniture decided to fully digitize its intralogistics, selecting IdentPro’s WES as a central component. The goal was to automate inventory management completely, allowing real-time tracking and visual tracing of all goods movements. Manual entries were to be eliminated, and warehouse processes fully digitalized and paperless. Additionally, the system needed to intelligently guide forklift drivers, recommending optimal routes to boost productivity, reduce unnecessary trips, and enable rapid onboarding of new employees.
The implementation was completed successfully in early 2020 within ten weeks, despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. All forklifts were equipped with IoT kits, digitally mapping the entire warehouse. With IdentPro’s RTLS technology, pallets and goods movements could now be precisely tracked, significantly reducing stock search times – saving between 15 and 20 minutes per shipment. Furthermore, the system enabled accurate and traceable inventory management, providing Bürstadt Furniture with continuous access to real-time data.
A major advantage was automating the traceability of production materials. Faulty batches could now be identified and quarantined within seconds, a task that previously took considerable time and could lead to incorrect deliveries.
Employee integration also played a critical role alongside technical implementation. The intuitive system allowed new forklift drivers to become operational immediately without lengthy training periods. IdentPro’s WES provides clear instructions, allowing drivers to fully concentrate on their tasks without memorizing warehouse layouts.
The result of this transformation is increased productivity with minimal personnel growth
Previously, the company handled around 40 trucks per day with 15 employees. Today, they handle over 65 trucks daily with only two additional employees. At the same time, all logistics processes have become more transparent, safer, and cost-effective.
